Workshop presentation published in Camtasil Studio

I gave a workshop presentation to faculty and staff at IVCC and then produced a video with enhancements using features of Camtasia Studio 5. It makes creating professional training videos much easier. The direct link is on the right column, it plays in flash player.

Camtasia Studio 5 and IGoogle

Here is the recording I made of how to create and add to an IGoogle page and add RSS feeds to your own page. I used Camtasia Studio 5 to record, edit and then to post all within the same program. I didn't have to move files from one program to the next in order to post it. Just click on the title to this post and you will be taken directly to the link where I posted it on the site hosted by Camtasia called screencast. It is for users who own Camtasia Studio. It is reasonable priced at around $300 USD and you can produce a video without knowing all the editing functions. I made this video by simply going through the process on IGoogle while recording with Camtasia Studio, then I followed the directions given by the program. I didn't use any of the editing options and used the wizard to publish and post the video. Very user friendly. And it didn't take that much time. If you have problems with the link above, try the one below:

You can download a free 30 trial of Camtasia Studio at the link below and the great thing about that, it is fully functional, none of the 'if you buy our product you can ...' I now have the purchased version on my computer, but the video was produced and published with the trial download. Thanks Camtasia!

How to get started

The first thing that I did was to create a blog account. If you go to the webpage below you will see how to get started. It takes three easy steps: creating an account where you enter you information etc, decide on a name for your blog (you can have fun with this), then select a template to get you started (you can change this whenever you like)
https://www.blogger.com/start

Next, I went to the two free services and signed up and followed their directions. (You have to activate them through the emails they send you, but the whole process takes only a few minutes and then you are ready to create your podcasts. Then, find the podcast, publish it and click on the link to get the html code. You copy the html code then paste it directly into your post on blogger. Here are the two webpages to the two services:

GCast Podcasting Service

Here is another free service that I found which allows you three avenues to create a podcast to post to your blog, telephone, computer or download music from a free site. (emerging artists have posted their own privately produced music here so there aren't any violations in posting them)

A way to post podcasts to my blog

I have just signed on to a new free service called Gabcast.com where you can use the telephone to record audio podcasts and post them to your blog. So, here is my first effort at using this service. Tell me what you think.

Tech update

I have now created a virtual tour of parts of our campus. I edited it using final cut pro on a mac. My first experience on either. What an adventure! I am wondering if anyone else had done this type of thing and has any advice. I am not very happy with some of my filming and editing. I want to make it interesting, but not too gimmicky just because the technology is fun to play with. Also, had trouble laying in a music background audio track, it wouldn't let me put one in after the narration track. Any tips?

Welcome comments

This is my first blog, so initially I limited who could see it. I am now opening it up to further my knowledge and experience. I am an educational technologist at a small community college and adjunct faculty teaching general psychology. My area of passion is learning. I have recently, as evidenced by my posted podcast, dug into Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences as it applies to learning styles. I am experimenting with various technologies to determine which ones meet the widest range of my students. I plan to use blogs, podcasts, clickers and any other media that will encourage my students to engage more fully with the material. This will hopefully encourage more lively discussions and enable my students to apply psychological principles to their own lives to enrich them. Any pointers, observations, cautions, and advice from professionals with experience in these matters as well as students who have experienced these types of efforts are welcome.

Psyched out and Teched up

Welcome to my Psych psyte! I teach psychology, (big surprise) and I am also an Educational Technologist, so I like to use technology in teaching and learning. I will use this blog to share my experiences and observations of the world. I hope you enjoy my world. I have begun to create podcasts about learning and will discover how to share these with you.
